What can cohorts 50 years apart tell us about obesity?

چکیده

There are different approaches used in science to elucidated important relationships and work better understand cause effect. The cohort study is one of the strongest observational designs because it can be temporal between exposures outcomes. However, studies also have a limitation as they usually unfold over relatively short period time static environment. In this volume Journal, Robinson et al evaluated data from 2 cohorts examining early life factors socioeconomic status (SES) with BMI later childhood. These were 50 years apart participants exposed environments, well sociocultural factors, even though done same geographic region. They found that although previous lower SES experienced higher risk growth restriction, modern had obesity. Rapid infancy was stronger correlate obesity cohort. This suggests environmental at infants children. Article page 138 ? What can proteomics tell us about platelets?

More than 130 years ago, it was recognized that platelets are key mediators of hemostasis. Nowadays, it is established that platelets participate in additional physiological processes and contribute to the genesis and progression of cardiovascular diseases. Recent data indicate that the platelet proteome, defined as the complete set of expressed proteins, comprises >5000 proteins and is highly ...

What Charm Can Tell Us About Beauty

A number of ways are reviewed in which the study of charmed particles can answer corresponding questions about particles containing b quarks. Topics include the properties of resonances, the magnitude of decay constants, the size of spin-dependent effects, and the hierarchy of lifetime differences.

What can size distributions within cohorts tell us about ecological processes in fish larvae?

Marine fish larvae are subject to variable environments, which is probably reflected in their growth and survival rates. Mortality rates are generally high and size-dependent. At the species level, these mortality rates are usually accompanied by correspondingly high growth rates. Here we provide examples from experimental studies with Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) and Atlantic herring (Clupea ha...

What 50 years of research tell us about pausing under ratio schedules of reinforcement.

Textbooks in learning and behavior commonly describe performance on fixed-ratio schedules as "break and run," indicating that after reinforcement subjects typically pause and then respond quickly to the next reinforcement. Performance on variable-ratio schedules, on the other hand, is described as steady and fast, with few long pauses. Beginning with Ferster and Skinner's magnum opus, Schedules...
